Michelle

What can I say about Queen Michelle aside that I adore her endlessly, that she is flawless #BlackGirlMagic who serves #SouthSide realness , unbothered #grace and unshakeable confidence wrapped in intelligence and wisdom? Perhaps my favorite part of the Obama era was seeing her in brown-skinned radiance, moving with ease and being herself, unashamedly. Her willingness to be purely herself was a balm and a boost for Black women, who were long tired of having to bend and twist themselves into shapes and appereances to seem more "palatable", only to be rendered invisible. Michelle is the one I would love to meet, to get one of her signature hugs, to laugh with, to listen to her advice. She is the woman who can move with ease between a backyard cookout and a state dinner with world leaders. This portrait is a bit of a departure from my typical #Inkscapeportraits because, well, it's #MichelleObama. Long live the #queen! Limited edition prints are available for sale at http://shop.jaimeetodd.com. A percentage of sales proceeds will be donated to #PlannedParenthood.

A Tribute to #44

I'll never forget the morning after the November 2008 election. I was listening to a black radio show while doing my hair and listening to people calling in tears, giving praise to the election of our first #BlackPresident. As I was listening to the call, the reality sunk in and the tears started flowing. My president was brilliant and Black! For so many days afterward there was a feeling of joyous celebration throughout the country. On the day of the inauguration, I joined my fellow New Yorkers to watch a live stream of the ceremony at City Hall. It felt like a holiday. Fast forward eight years and here we are at the end of the #Obama Era. During his two terms we bore witness to his redeeming qualities and imperfections, his achievements and his mistakes, his coolness and intellectualism. I don't envy anyone who wants to be president. The legacy of its office rests upon the deeply flawed foundation that is the United States and I think it's terribly difficult to reach your greatest potential within the confines of the office. I believe, like Jimmy Carter, his greatest contributions are still yet to come as a private citizen but I will miss him as my president. Limited edition prints are available for sale at http://shop.jaimeetodd.com. A percentage of sales proceeds will be donated to Planned Parenthood.

My mother always says, "Simplicity is everything." The older I get, the more I appreciate the truth of these words. I'm constantly striving to declutter, to make my life simpler and streamlined. My goal is to become more of a minimalist.

I've decided to extend this approach to the re-design of my portfolio and especially my online store. I had to declutter it and wanted to start fresh with an emphasis on selling high quality prints of my work. Each month, I will feature a new print that will be available for sale which I will announce here  on my Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages.

To start off, I'm featuring two of my favorite prints of my Inkscapes: Marigold and A Disturbance In The Force. Head over to the Gift Shop to get your print today.

You Won't Find These at Walmart

It's that time of the year when people camp out in long lines outside of [insert name of chain store here], rush in, do battle with one another and snatch that thing on sale to stick under the Christmas tree. In some places it's known as Battle Royale; in the United States, we call it Black Friday.

But why go through all that madness when you can buy a unique and memorable gift from the comfort of your home or mobile device?

Get your life and a unique gift with new items I've added to my Gift Shop. I've created colorful greeting card sets, a brand new postcard collection and a new tote bag. You can also give the gift of fine art by custom ordering a lovely giclee print via my online portfolio.

Like Smoke

I reworked one of my black and white Inkscapes to create a more dramatic image that closely resembles curls of smoke, hence the title. In addition to having this piece featured in an upcoming exhibition in California, I'm selling limited edition prints via my online store. Each print is hand signed and is printed on photgraphique paper. The paper size is 24x18" and includes a one-inch border.

I'll be adding more black and white Inkscape prints soon so be sure to check back often at The Gift Shop!
