A few weeks ago, I had posted one of my steely blue inkscapes and one of my fellow Instagramers, Nathalie commented: "So beautiful. I want a dress of it and swim in it. I just want it all around me."
This gave me an idea; what if I could fashion my Inkscapes to look like a beautiful garment made of colors? Lucky for me, my friend Kathryn Buford, founder of the online art magazine Live Unchained, was gracious enough to be my model for the day. I was actually a little nervous about trying it because I wasn't sure if it was going to work but I'm happy with what I've experimented with. The end result of this piece reminds of how Kathryn resembles the Orisha goddess Yemoja (Yemaya), who happened to be a subject of a painting I did a few years ago.
This also happens to be the first Inkscape portrait where my model doesn't have her eyes closed but instead she's gazing up. Her upturned face reminds me of the Disney cartoon where Cinderella goes from rags to into a splendid ball gown with the help of her fairy godmother. Right here, Kathryn looks like she has been touched with a magic wand and has been transformed and looks ready to float into the sky. I love the expression on her face.
There's more I want to play with and explore, so stay tuned for my portraits!
